The need and promise of a qualitative description of large quantum coherent structures

Design, characterization, and optimization of large artificial quantum structures (e.g., practically useful computers) is hindered by the fact that their efficient simulation classical means fundamentally impossible. On other hand, important information about such systems can be obtained from a qualitative analysis “general case” behavior. In particular, finding universal dimensionless comb inations parameters (figures-of-merit), which control transitions between qualitatively different regimes operation, will help establish desired system with use scaled experiments model calculations.
